I am passionate about Montessori education and have been since 1989 when my eldest daughter Rachel went to Palmerston North Montessori Preschool. The time she spent there was an amazing start to her learning journey and I wanted other children to also have that opportunity. In Cambridge back in 2000 that opportunity eventuated when Raleigh St opened, and ever since then the schools have grown and developed into the caring learning communities we have today. When I get spare time I love planning my next gardening project or travelling with family and friends. I enjoy spending time with my four daughters, Rachel, Ruth, Sophie and Georgina along with our dog Tess (another girl) which creates a very busy home.
Welcome to our school and I encourage you to become part of our community.
Kia ora and welcome to Cambridge Montessori Preschool. I would be delighted to invite you and your whanau to visit our beautiful Montessori.
I’ve worked for Cambridge Montessori Preschool for several years in management. I have had experience in most aspects of early childhood education. When the opportunity became available to work in a Montessori, I realised that I wished I had given my children the choice of this wonderful education. I have a strong belief that everyone is welcome at Montessori and I enjoy meeting our new families and developing relationships.
I love spending time at our beach home with my family and our two dogs. You will often find me getting my hands dirty gardening, cooking up a storm and spending special time with friends and family over a nice glass of wine and great food.
I grew up strongly influenced by a Montessori background in Ireland, where my Mother was a Montessori Teacher and we had a school in our home for over twenty years. My background in New Zealand was steadily established in Playcentre where I made lifelong friends and developed a strong interest in early childhood education. I then began working alongside children with special needs and this led to achieving my Bachelor of Teaching Early Childhood. I have over twenty years experience in this field and have enjoyed working in a variety of early childhood settings including Kindergarten and Daycare.
I came to Montessori later in my early childhood career, only because it was not available when I first emigrated here. I loved teaching in Cambridge Montessori Pre-School for nearly ten years and knew that I had found my passion, which resulted in me gaining my Aperfield Montessori diploma. Following on from Cambridge, I owned and ran my own Montessori preschool in Te Awamutu for four years which my business partner and I decided to sell recently. I have worked alongside Cambridge Montessori teachers and Management for some time and will continue to do so as a Teaching Mentor. I look forward to continuing my Montessori work with the Cambridge team.
